Beckham future still up in the air

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo said the club is no certainty to secure the services of former England captain David Beckham.

It had been widely suggested that Beckham would be interested in returning to Europe once his current five-year deal with the LA Galaxy expires on Saturday.

However, Beckham s reluctance to leave Los Angeles, where he has raised four children since moving from Real Madrid in 2007, could mean staying put in the United States.

Also, according to the BBC, Beckham and his advisors have been impressed with Galaxy s determination to re-sign their marquee player and their offer of a one-year rolling deal.

Cashed-up PSG are considered the front-runners to secure Beckham s services if he does decide to leave the MLS, but Leonardo said there was no guarantee that would happen.

We ve never said that it s done with him, Leonardo said. We have a very good rapport, but I don t know if that will work with David Beckham.

For him, this is a familiar choice. He is in LA. He s with his family. He must spend time there to reflect on his personal life, but nothing is done. I don t know what he ll do.

A representative of the 36-year-old confirmed to Agence France-Presse that Beckham had an offer on the table from PSG, but added that the former England captain was currently biding his time.

An offer does not equate to a contract, Beckham s representative said.

We continue to hold talks with a certain number of clubs, including PSG and LA Galaxy, but no decision has been made and we are waiting for one now.

A move to PSG would see Beckham reunited with Carlo Ancelotti, who took him on loan from the MLS to AC Milan in 2009. The Italian was announced as the French club s new coach on Friday.

During his unveiling, Ancelotti admitted the team will likely be active during January s transfer window, but refused to mention any names.

It is not about budget, it is about taking the chance of this winter market to reinforce the team in certain areas, Ancelotti said.

I think it is not appropriate to mention names. We want to make a better team and what we can do, we will do.

Beckham, who began his career with Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid, had 11 goals and 31 assists in five seasons with the Galaxy and won the 2011 MLS Cup against Houston Dynamo in November.
