Liverpool best team I have faced but Manchester City will not quit, says Rodri

Rodri has described fearsome Liverpool as the best team he has faced but warned the Premier League leaders that Manchester City will not give up their title without a fight.

Liverpool have opened a 14-point gap on the defending champions, who have already dropped as many points this term as they did in the whole of 2018-19 when the Reds finished second.

Third-placed City head to Arsenal on Sunday for their next league outing and Rodri, used 14 times in the top flight this season, has urged his team-mates to focus on the task at hand.

The Spain international, who played a full part in last month s 3-1 defeat at Anfield, told Goal: On an individual basis I can say that Liverpool are the best team I have faced.

They dominate at both ends of the field and ar…

Deschamps urges Giroud to leave Chelsea

France national team head coach Didier Deschamps has urged Olivier Giroud to leave Chelsea in January.

As quoted by , the 1998 World Cup winner expressed his concerns about the striker not getting enough playing time at Stamfrod Bridge. Giroud is currently behind Tammy Abraham, and possibly even Michy Batshuayi, in the pecking order under Frank Lampard, and he hasn t made his dissatisfaction over the situation exactly a secret. He has been linked with a move away, with Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan reportedly interested in his services.

Deschamps said that it would obviously be better for the 33-year-old to go somewhere else and get more game-time, but he added that it was up to the player himself to decide if he wants to look for a solution or not. The situation hasn…

Celtic clinch County´s Commons

Scottish giants Celtic have finalised the signing of Kris Commons from Derby County on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Commons, 27, also has the option of a further year after he signed with Celtic on Friday, for a fee of about 300,000 pounds.

Celtic pounced on the fact that Commons contract expired at the end of the season and will hope that the winger can repeat the form he has shown for Derby in the Championship, where he has netted 13 goals in 26 appearances.

Kris is a goal scorer for a start, Celtic boss Neil Lennon said.

I ve known him for three or four years from my time at Nottingham Forest. I always liked his style, he can play either side of midfield and he can play off the striker.

Commons ability to score excites Lennon, who will hop…

Mauricio Pochettino’s substitutes earn Chelsea wild FA Cup win over Leicester

Chelsea needed stoppage-time goals from substitutes Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke to edge past 10-man Leicester 4-2 in a wild FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side led 2-0 before the visitors stormed back to level, but a glorious flick from the excellent Cole Palmer set up Chukwuemeka to slot the ball into the corner to put Chelsea 3-2 up before Madueke gave the score some gloss with a brilliant solo effort.

Chelsea were two up at the break thanks to goals from Marc Cucurella and Palmer, while Raheem Sterling had a first-half penalty saved.

A surreal own-goal from Axel Disasi and a Stephy Mavididi goal improbably hauled Leicester back, before Callum Doyle was red carded late on.

Extra-time beckoned, until Pochettino…

Fabregas should make Arsenal return – Cazorla

Cesc Fabregas should return to Arsenal from Barcelona rather than join Chelsea, his Spain team-mate Santi Cazorla has claimed.

Fabregas is widely expected to depart Camp Nou in the coming months after failing to nail down a regular starting role for Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has scored an impressive 42 goals in 151 games in all competitions for the Catalan giants, but is thought to be keen on a move to become a key player elsewhere.

He will have a chance to prove his worth at the upcoming FIFA World Cup, where Spain will look to defend their 2010 crown.

And, amid reports Arsenal and Chelsea could fight it out for his signature, Cazorla has called for the former Emirates Stadium captain to make a return to north London.

I have read that Cesc could go to Che…

Edwin van der Sar – one of the best

One of his highlights

In amongst all the deserved superlatives flying around for the wonderful performance of Barcelona on Saturday evening, it has almost gone unnoticed that one of the finest keepers of his generation and any other, made his last ever appearance in that game.

Disappointed

Edwin van der Sar was hugely disappointed to bow out with such a comprehensive defeat and with the second goal looking suspiciously like one he should have saved, but he can look back on a glorious career with his head held high.

I played one game too many I think, it is not nice to lose of course. It is not always a given, I thank everyone for the memories. They had the better chances and we made one or two mistakes and they punish you. They are very good, you have to …
