Zahavi calls for third-party scrutiny

Football agent Pini Zahavi believes third-party ownership in football is more widespread than people realise and should be monitored.

Zahavi was heavily criticised for his involvement in the transfers of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham in 2008, which involved third-party ownership.

Speaking at the Soccerex Convention in Rio de Janeiro, Zahavi agreed that transfer regulations need to be clear.

I believe this is a very important subject, Zahavi said.

The issue of third party, we call it third party, but economic rights is dramatic for the future of world football.

I believe that this panel will create some change of thoughts with the politicians running world football.

The 69-year-old has brokered multi-million transfers for the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Juan Sebastian Veron, as well as being instrumental in helping Roman Abramovich buy Chelsea.
